About

A coloring book named after a girl who colors on everything

The HaniColoring mascot, a girl holding an orange crayon

Hana is our daughter. Hani is what we call her, and it is the name that ended up on the cover. She draws constantly and she has strong opinions about which pages are worth coloring. Pages crowded with tiny shapes get skipped. Pages with a cat asleep by a fire do not. That turned out to be the whole brief.

So every book in the series follows one rule: bold, open lines and plenty of room. No crosshatching, no shading, no fields of detail so fine you need a pen with a needle for a tip. A page should be something you can finish in a sitting and be pleased with.

Each book takes a single cozy theme and stays with it for 40 drawings. Spooky autumn evenings. A kitchen at Christmas. Kittens doing very little. All 15 of them are finished and ready to print at home, and the paperbacks follow a couple at a time.

How they are made

Every page is reviewed at full size before it goes to print, one at a time, all forty of them. Pages with stray lettering, grey shading or solid black areas are redrawn rather than shipped, because those are the pages that look fine on a screen and disappoint you with a marker in your hand. That review is the slow part, and it is the part that decides whether a book is worth selling.

Every book comes two ways. The printable is the finished interior as a PDF, the same 40 pages at the same square size, which you run off a sheet at a time on ordinary paper; it is sold through our Etsy shop. The paperback is the identical book bound on bright white stock, printed and shipped by Amazon. We publish under HaniColoring, and the publisher is Nitrotech.
